Effective: 6 October 2026
Applies to: Plotback on Google Play and Plotback on the App Store, version 1.0.0
The short version
- Plotback has no accounts, no sign-in and no server.
- Plotback has no analytics, no ads, no tracking and no crash reporting of its own.
- We never receive names, answers or scores. Plotback keeps them in its own storage on the phone that runs the game, though some phone makers' transfer tools may copy them to a new phone (see below).
- The Android app has no permission to use the internet. The iPhone app has no code that connects to the internet.
- Plotback is a folding-phone game: one person holds the phone open, reads the small outside screen, and everyone else reads the big inside one.
- Purchases go through Google Play or the App Store. We never see your payment details.
- You can delete everything Plotback keeps, whenever you like, from the phone itself.

What Plotback keeps on your phone
Everything below sits in Plotback's private app storage, which other apps can't read. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else.
Android
| What Plotback keeps | Why | For how long |
|---|---|---|
| Back of the Card records: names as they were typed, scores, how each round went, when you played, and the best turn and run. Never the words themselves. | So the records can show who won what, and setup can offer up to 12 names you have played with before. | Until you tap "forget the records", clear Plotback's storage, or uninstall. |
| A night you haven't finished (Back of the Card or Up the Sleeve): names, scores, how far you got, and how each round went so far, including how quickly cards were got or settled. | So a night cut short by a call or a closed app can be picked back up. | Until you finish it or answer when Plotback offers it back. For Back of the Card, "put it on the records" moves it onto the records, and "let it go", offered when no turn was played or the night is already on the records, deletes it. For Up the Sleeve, "go to the record" shows how it ended and deletes it. If you start a new night instead, a Back of the Card night with a turn played goes on the records and anything else is deleted. |
| A finished night waiting for the records. Rare: only when saving or reading the records failed. | So the night isn't lost. | Until it reaches the records, which Plotback tries again the next time it opens, or until you forget the records. |
| Recently asked questions: question ids only, never names or answers. | So the next night doesn't repeat the same questions. | Until you clear Plotback's storage or uninstall. |
| What this phone owns: the product ids of any occasion box you've bought. No order numbers, purchase tokens or account details. | So bought boxes still open when Google Play can't be reached. | Replaced each time Google Play answers. Removed when you clear Plotback's storage or uninstall. |
| Google Play billing's own log: diagnostic records that Google's billing library, included so boxes can be bought, may keep about its own work. | Google's library keeps them for Google. Plotback has no permission to use the internet, so they can't be sent from Plotback. | Until the library drops them, you clear Plotback's storage, or uninstall. |
While Plotback is open it also holds some things in memory only: the names typed at setup, so going back doesn't lose them, and one drawing from each round of The Sketch, so it can be shown when the night is played back at the end. The names are gone when the app closes, and the drawings when the night ends or the app closes.
Plotback turns off Android app backup, so none of this goes into your Google backup. Some phone makers' transfer tools may still copy it when you set up a new phone.
iPhone
The iPhone version plays on the iPhone Duo, and keeps the same things as Android's Back of the Card and Up the Sleeve rows above, in its own app storage: records, an unfinished night and recently asked questions. It also keeps the product ids of any occasion box you've bought, the same way Android does.
This storage is left out of iCloud and computer backups, except the list of recently asked questions, which is an ordinary iPhone setting and may be included in your usual backup.
Camera
The Android app doesn't use the camera and has no permission to.
On iPhone, Plotback keeps the camera on while you play Back of the Card or Up the Sleeve, and uses it in three ways. The room sees itself live in a small window on the outer screen; when a turn ends, its last few seconds are replayed there once; and at the end of the night, a short clip of each round's best moment comes back with it. Apple only lets an app show its own content on the iPhone Duo's outer screen while a camera session is running, which is why the camera is part of the show. The pictures are small and stay in the phone's memory only while you play: the last few seconds, a few short clips of the turn being played until its best moment is chosen, and then one short clip for each round until the night is over. Nothing is saved to the phone, no sound is recorded, and nothing is sent anywhere. The camera turns off, and everything it showed is gone, when you finish the night or start another, when the show is put down, or when the app leaves the screen. Anyone in front of the phone can be in the picture, so tell your guests before you start.
Purchases
Everything on Plotback's home screen is free to play. There are six one-time occasion boxes: Christmas Day, Birthday Do, Summer Holiday, Halloween, New Year's Eve and Road Trip. Each adds themed cards to Back of the Card and Up the Sleeve, and nothing else needs buying to play any show in full.
On Android, boxes are bought through Google Play. Google handles the payment, your Google account and the receipt, under Google's privacy policy. To know what you own, Plotback asks the Google Play Store app on your phone which Plotback products your Google account has bought, and confirms new purchases with it. Plotback keeps only the product ids (see the table above). "Restore purchases" works through the same Google account.
On iPhone, boxes are bought through the App Store using Apple's StoreKit. Apple handles the payment, your Apple Account and the receipt, under Apple's privacy policy. Plotback asks Apple which of its products you own, keeps only the product ids on the phone, and "restore purchases" works through the same Apple Account.
We never see your card details from either store. Purchases don't carry over between Android and iPhone, because the two stores don't share that information with each other or with us.
Google and Apple give us sales reports, such as the order number, product, price, date and country, which we use for accounting, tax and refunds.
No internet, no analytics
The Android app has no permission to use the internet. Google Play's billing library, which Plotback includes so boxes can be bought, contains Google logging components. Without that permission they can't send anything from Plotback. The purchase itself is carried out by the Google Play Store app, over its own connection.
The iPhone app has no networking code of its own. StoreKit, Apple's own purchasing system, talks to Apple over its own connection to check and record purchases; nothing else on iPhone connects to anything.
Plotback has no analytics or advertising code, and no crash reporting of its own. If you have chosen in your phone's settings to share usage and diagnostics (Android) or to share analytics with app developers (iPhone), Google or Apple may pass us crash reports about Plotback. These show where in the app something went wrong, with details such as the phone model and system version. We use them only to fix problems.
When you send us something
Plotback doesn't have an in-app way to report a problem yet. Email us instead, at the address above.
If you email us, we receive your message, your email address and anything you add. We use it only to answer you and fix problems. We keep it for two years after the conversation ends and share it with no one except Google Workspace, which stores our email for us. Google may process that email outside the UK, under the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or an equivalent safeguard in its contract with us.
Children
Plotback is for people aged 13 and over. It is not directed at children under 13. Plotback sends us nothing, so we don't knowingly receive information about children. If a child under 13 has emailed us, tell us and we will delete it.
Deleting everything
- Back of the Card records: tap "forget the records" on the records.
- An unfinished Back of the Card night: when Plotback offers it back, tap "let it go". If the button says "put it on the records" instead, tap it, then "forget the records".
- An unfinished Up the Sleeve night: when Plotback offers it back, tap "go to the record". Up the Sleeve keeps no records, so the saved night is deleted.
- Everything on Android: clear Plotback's storage in your phone's app settings, or uninstall Plotback.
- Everything on iPhone: delete Plotback.
- Emails you sent us: ask us at the address above.
We hold nothing else about you, apart from the sales reports Google and Apple give us, which we keep for six years.
Your rights
Devector is the controller, under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), for the emails you send us and the sales reports Google and Apple give us. We use emails because we have a legitimate interest in answering you and fixing problems, and we keep sales records because the law requires it.
You can ask us for a copy of that information, and ask us to correct it or limit how we use it. For your emails, you can also ask us to delete them or to stop using them. We can't delete sales records while the law requires us to keep them. Email us to do any of these. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
What Plotback keeps on your phone never reaches us. You already have it and can delete it yourself.
Google and Apple decide for themselves how they use what they collect through their stores. Their own privacy policies explain that.
Changes
When this policy changes we will update the effective date at the top and publish the new version at https://www.devector.io/products/plotback/privacy.
